Tips for Good Photos

In General...

  • Stand back to compose the entire house and property as you want it to appear in your portrait.

  • Be sure the images are in focus. Hold the camera as horizontal as possible and don’t point directly into the sun.

  • You can send by email or regular mail. If emailing digital photos, provide high-resolution images. If sending via regular mail, 4″ x 6″ photo prints or larger will work the best. Photo prints will be returned with your completed portrait.

  • From your photos, indicate the view that you most prefer. If you do not have a favorite then I will suggest the image that will make the most pleasing portrait.

  • I may ask questions to get a better mental picture of your home and property.

  • There is more specific instruction below.

As You Are Photographing Your Property

Consider the following…

  • Angle - Walk around your property and take many photographs from several different angles. Sometimes the straight-on front view is best, sometimes a corner view or slight angle can be more flattering.

  • Details – Zoom in on any special features or details you want to emphasize. This will reveal the architecture, shrubs, landscaping, trim and siding color, shutters, doors, windows, etc.

  • Light - Photograph on a sunny day, preferably in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is shining on the front of your home. Avoid mid-day or when the house is in full shadow.

  • Editing - Don’t worry about any obstructions that appear in your photographs. I can minimize, move or even omit certain objects like power lines, telephone poles, trees, hedges, etc. to create a more appealing composition.
